I bought turbotax deluxe on line. I e filed the federal return but the system doesn't allow me to print the state tax return.

It's not necessarily intuitive and we've been confused by it before as well. But... If you click on "File a Return" at the top of your screen, it will walk you through filing again but know that you e-filed Federal, and offer you to print the State return.
