I amended previous years tax return. It's been 4 weeks and not showing up on irs website. It keeps saying it will show up within first 3 weeks. Has anyone else had this?

Amended returns can take more than 6 months to process. 

Yes, 6 to 8 months to process. However within 3 weeks it shows up in the system is what I keep reading

Lower your expectations.   The IRS has been severely backlogged for a long time and it all takes longer than it used to.

Do not expect quick results from amending.  When the IRS issues a refund for an amended return it will be by check.  They do not make direct deposits for refunds for amended returns.  You can watch for information here:

Hi sorry the question wasn't clear. I'm very aware it takes at least 6 - 8 mths. That's not my question. My question is in regards to what I keep reading. That it is within the first 3 weeks that it will show it's been received.

@vanessad108 And again----it may take a lot longer than three weeks before you see anything on the Where's My Amended Return site, despite what you have read.  That is why we recommend that people who mail in amended returns use a mailing service like certified mail so that they will know the 1040X was received.
