I amended my 2016 return because I forgot to enter a 1098-E. It didn't change my return I don't think. Can I cancel the amended return and just file the 1st one I did?

If you have not already filed your tax returns, you do not need to amend them.  You can delete your amended return, add the1098-E, and file your returns as normal.

If you have already filed your returns, it is recommended that you wait until after the IRS has accepted your return and sent your refund (if you are due one) before you amend your return.  The reason for this is because the IRS may make small adjustments to your return to better reflect your tax situation, or may request specific forms to be sent to them - such as the 1098-E - and you would not need to amend.

If you do not need to amend, you can remove the amended return by following the instructions below:
