Did you e-file the amended state return? To be fair, this is the first year TurboTax has allowed e-filing amended returns, and I have no idea if that extends to state returns. In any case, if you e-filed it, you should have received a confirmation of e-filing.

Lacking that, then, yes, you must print, sign and mail your state return - otherwise the state would never know that you made those changes.

For some reason it is only allowing me to mail it in.. Which is okay. I didn't see the option for state to amend with EFile.

Currently, Kansas amended returns cannot be efiled in TurboTax.  Please see this Help Article for additional information:  Can I e-file my amended state return?

On Kansas amended return, I watched carefully when I was efiling and Turbo Tax stated: " efile amended Return to Federal.

Returns transmitted:

- Federal Return

-Kansas Return

Question #1 of 2

Does this mean that these were both efiled Only to Federal?

Question #2

When printing out Kansas State amended Return, it seems to include ALL Federal forms etc. too.  Do I mail my entire amended Federal Return with the amended State Return? Seems like a lot of paper to mail...

In the past when I owed the state of Kansas, it was only form K-40 and Schedule S, which is only 5 pages to mail.

The message you received - "Returns transmitted: - Federal Return,  -Kansas Return"- indicates that both amended returns were e-filed.

If you needed to mail the amended KS return, the program prints out all the required federal attachments. It might seem like a lot of paper, but that is what the program has determined is necessary.

This might be more than in prior years, but KS filing requirement may have change this year and/or your federal return may be more complicated than in past years.

Sending more than is necessary is not a problem; sending less than is necessary could mean a delay.
