What IRS statement are you referring to?   Please tell us what documents you are looking at and what line on your Form 1040 you are referring to.

I logged into my IRS account and it shows me my balance of estimated payments and carryover of overpayment from 2023's filing.  for example, it shows the 3 quarterly payments for April, June and September - let's call that $9,000 ($3k per quarter).  It also shows a carry forward of $1,540 of overpayment that I asked to be applied to my 2024 return.  Line 26 on the 1040 is 2024 Estimated payments and amount applied from 2023 return.  When I click through it shows that the estimated payments are correct (I input these) the carryover amount is incorrect - it is too high.  I need to lower it.  It will not allow me to modify it.

Did you manually enter the amount applied from last year?  It should have automatically transferred it from last year.

To enter or edit last year's refund you applied to this year.
