I am trying to figure out how a number was calculated in Row 6, column B of a 1040X Amended Form.

That is the tax calculation which is done automatically ... if you see QDCGTW on that line then look for that worksheet to see the preferred cap gain tax calculation.  Save a PDF with all the worksheets ...
