I am getting concerned. Everyone around me got their unemployment tax refund. My parents who filed jointly even got it. I have a simple tax return and nothing!!!

I filed back in February and the IRS has always been quick to give me refunds. They said they would be doing simple to complex returns through the summer. Now it's September and I have gotten nothing, even though my return was very simple. I'm just starting to feel like they forgot about me and I don't even know who to contact about this!

The IRS is stretched and millions of people are still waiting for the unemployment refund.  In some cases, the refunds are mailed, but held up by postal delays.  If you want to check up on what's happening with any payment you're expecting from the IRS, then you can use their Refund Status Tool.

@toontownlover4 Are you asking about the refund for your 2020 tax return-----or are you asking about the "extra" refund for tax on unemployment for people who filed before the tax law changed?

It is possible that excluding the unemployment will not get you any more refund so you are waiting for nothing ... and the returns are NOT being recomputed easiest to hardest ... that plan was not obtainable.

You will get a federal income tax refund for the unemployment exclusion if all of the following are true.

  • You reported unemployment benefits as income on your 2020 tax return, on Schedule 1 line 7.
  • You did not get the unemployment exclusion on the 2020 tax return that you filed. The unemployment exclusion would appear as a negative amount on Schedule 1 line 8, with the abbreviation UCE on the dotted line to the left of the amount.
  • Your tax on Form 1040 line 16 is not zero.
  • Your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), not including unemployment, is less than $150,000. In other words, Form 1040 line 11 minus Schedule 1 line 7 is less than $150,000.

If all four of those conditions are true, The IRS will recalculate your tax return and send you the refund. It might be a couple of months before you get it. For more information see the following IRS announcements and FAQ.

The adjustment for UCE cannot be followed using the "refund tracking" page.

If you are eligible, it will come eventually. The summer is not over yet.

Did you get your original refund?

For some millions of filers, including myself, the refund has been delayed waiting for a human to review the tax return.

I haven't gotten mine yet either. I'm starting to really worry and get irritated. I need that money!

@Sjparker

You can call IRS for a status,

they should at least be able to tell you if you qualify or not.
