I am entitled to receive the Unemployment Tax Refund break but as of 12/9/2021 I have not received anything. What do I do now?

@caalger1952 When---and how-- did you file your 2020 tax return?   Did you e-file it or mail it?   Has the return been fully processed?

Believe it or not, IRS is still working on getting the adjusted refund out for tax returns filed before March 11 when the Unemployment Exclusion was signed into law.

Unbelievable!!!!     I have 2 friends who filed after me and they received their unemployment refund!!!    Sure could use that money owed to me!!!   If I owed it to them they sure would let me know!!!

I filed in early March and I e-filed my return.   It was before they allowed the exemption up to $10,200. for the unemployment and I also claimed taxes on my unemployment right from the start.

You will get an additional federal income tax refund for the unemployment exclusion if all of the following are true.

  • You reported unemployment benefits as income on your 2020 tax return, on Schedule 1 line 7.
  • You did not get the unemployment exclusion on the 2020 tax return that you filed. The unemployment exclusion would appear as a negative amount on Schedule 1 line 8, with the abbreviation UCE on the dotted line to the left of the amount.
  • Your tax on Form 1040 line 16 is not zero.
  • Your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), not including unemployment, is less than $150,000.

TurboTax cannot track or predict when it will be sent.  The IRS has not provided a way for you to track it, so all you can do is wait for the refund to arrive.

The IRS is still working on getting the unemployment corrections taken care of ... so if you qualify for more of a refund after the exclusion happens then eventually they will get to your return.  Sadly no way to speed up the process or check on where it is in the system.
