I am Amending 2023 1040 efiled but not paid yet, what should I do??

I have a question regarding my 1044 2023 that I have already e-filed. I have decided to establish a Roth IRA and traditional IRA for myself and my wife this has reduced my tax liability where I actually get a refund. I did e-file that about a week ago but have not sent in the money yet. What should I do at this point??

You have until April 15 to contribute to your Traditional and Roth IRAs.

You just send your contributions to your IRA custodians by April 15, and indicate that the contributions are for tax year 2023..

Yes, I understand that and am in the process of establishing these accounts and and funding them. However my original e-filed 2023 1040 had a tax liability of about $2200. The reason for this amendment was to eliminate that $2200 with these IRA contributions. My question is, since I only e-filed a week and I have not yet sent in the tax payment, should I wait and not send in the tax payment and e-file this amendment and after IRS processing expect that small refund after the amendment 1040 is processed?

Assuming you entered that you would pay by check when you e-filed your original return, you don't need to remit payment. Because you intend to file by April 15th, what you are filing is technically a superseding return rather than an amended return, though you follow the same steps.

If you file the superseding return by mail, write "SUPERSEDING RETURN" across the top.

See here for more information from IRS about superseding returns.
