How to get e-file fee refunded if forced to mail in taxes

I typically e-file. This year after I had paid my e-file fee for state, I got an error message saying I couldn’t e-file any of my returns due to the way one of my W-2’s was written.  The W-2 was correct, so I had to mail in the taxes for Federal and State.  How do I get the e-file fee refunded since it wasn’t used?

I continue to get a message in TurboTax that I paid to e-file but have not finished e-filing yet.

It seems like the fee should stay pending until the file is actually submitted via e-file or these checks should be done prior to the payment step.  Is there a way to get this e-file fee refunded?

If you used online TurboTax your fee is the same whether you e-file or mail it in an envelope.  You are not charged an extra fee to e-file.  The fee is for using the software to prepare your returns, and there is no refund for having to mail it instead of e-filing.

If you used the CD/download and the fee you are referring to is the $25 state e-file fee, then you can ask for a refund for the $25.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue.  If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help.  Do not use the word “refund.”
