How to Download My 2021 e-Filed TurboTax?

I have a PDF of my e-Filed 2021 TT but need to import a file into my 2022 Home & Business TT.

How do I download my 2021 return to my Mac desktop? What filetype applies?

You need the tax file, not a pdf.     The one with the extension .tax2021

How to transfer last year’s return?

Since I e-filed my 2021 return, can I download the .tax2021 file? How?

"Since I e-filed..."     You could have e-filed using online software or desktop software.   What software did you use for 2021?   Did you use online?  Do you have your login information for the account you used for 2021?

I used iMac desktop Home & Business for my 2021 return and e-filed it.

If you used desktop software you should have saved the return both as a pdf and as a tax file.   The fact that you e-filed is irrelevant.

You need the data file ending in .tax2021.   My friend has a Mac. I had to use Finder to find it.

Find tax files on Mac. You might need to show extensions. I think Mac doesn't show the .tax2021 at the end.

When you start 2022 it should find your 2021 file and ask if you want to transfer from it.  Did you use this computer to do 2021?

Here's an idea. Do you still have 2021 installed? Try opening 2021 program and see if you can get your 2021 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. And see if that is the right one.

In the 2021 program do a File-Save AS or Duplicate and give it a easy name you can find or search for. And note where it saves it or select where to save it so you can find it again. The file will end in .tax2021. Then close the 2021 program. Then start a new 2022 return and transfer from the 2021 file.

I can open my 2021 TT on my desktop and can see the file on my hard drive, but the filename is grayed out, so I am unable to import it into my 2022 TT. Why might the filename be grayed out? How to import into 2022?

First of all update the 2022 program.   Start a new 2022 return to try to transfer from 2021.   Go up to File-New Tax Return.   Were you able to save it again in 2021?  Did you close and quit the 2021 program?

Yes I can open my 2021 tax return however the filename is grayed out even though I have my iCloud and iMac synced.

You mention File --> Save As. My 2021 TurboTax Home & Business only offers a 'File --> Save' choice and doesn't give me the opportunity to name the file or specify where I want to store it.

Do I need to import my 2021 return into my 2022 return?

On Mac "save as"  is Duplicate  You should have the 2021 tax file on your computer.   Don't try to transfer it from iCloud.     Use Finder to find it.

No you don't need to transfer 2021 into 2022.  You can enter everything from scratch again.  Do you have any complicated items like Depreciation?  You can manually enter any carryovers like Capital Loss Carryover.

Thank you to all who provided advice on how to resolve my "missing" .tax2021 file. I'm all set.
