How long does it take for an e-filed New York State Tax Return to be "accepted?"

A state return cannot be accepted until the IRS accepts your federal return.  There is often a lag of a day or two after the federal return is accepted before the state is accepted.

Thank you for your message.  My federal tax return was accepted within an hour after being e-filed.  Good to know that it can take days before my New York State tax return is then accepted! 

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
