How do I handle a 2018 federal income tax refund that was sent to me after April 15, 2019 above and beyond what was on tax return?

My 2018 federal tax return had me payment some additional tax. The IRS sent a $2,409 check after filing. They had corrected the tax return for lost carried forward and mistakes on the return. Do I have to declare the $2,409 on my 2019 tax return?

Federal tax refunds are not reported on a federal tax return.

If part of it was for interest you need to report the interest as income.

Enter interest from the IRS like a 1099Int and put the amount in box 1.

Enter a 1099-Int  under
