The "Print and Mail" page says "Select Print Returns and choose 'All official forms required for filing' to print out your amended returns and filing instructions." When I do this I don't get any choice--I just get a dialog box saying TTX is getting ready to have my printer print out 395 pages. See attached. This does not make any sense.
removed....Please do not post personal information or documents on this PUBLIC website. It has been removed for your security but whatever you posted was up for nearly twenty minutes.
OK--thanks for removing the attachment. Yes I did fill out a 1040X using the TTX program and now the program wants to print 395 pages . . .
Those include all the worksheets. So just select the pages you want, and print those.
TurboTax doesn't print - it generates a PDF file. It is up to you to select Print All Pages, or Selected Pages.
What to print --
Do not include your old 1040 nor your revised 1040 because the Form 1040X reflects any changes there and becomes your new tax return.
Include any new/corrected document only if it shows federal tax withheld, and include only those Sequence Numbered tax forms that changed due to your amendment.
Attachment Sequence Number is on all the forms that come after 1040.
Mail to the same address you would mail your original tax return.
also, make sure those pages are the new pages. Due to a bug in TurboTax, sometimes it prints your old tax return !
Can we do better than this? You said, "include only those Sequence Numbered tax forms that changed due to your amendment." Basically what you're telling me is that I should search through the PDF the TTX program generates—manually, page by page and line by line—and figure out which forms have entries that changed.
Let's think about this. For this amendment, I am changing exactly one item of income. One. Based on that one change, TTX then generates a host of changes on I don't know how many forms. If the program is doing that correctly, then it should also be able to identify which forms it changed. Is it possible this is what your programmers had in mind when they had the Print and File page say "Select Print Returns and choose 'All official forms required for filing' to print out your amended returns and filing instructions."? That implies the program will select the forms I'm supposed to print and file. That's what it used to mean, anyway.
I do get it that TTX doesn't print. The program I have goes straight to a print dialog box that gives me the option of printing 395 pages or saving them as a PDF. What I'm looking for is an option that gives me the forms I'm actually supposed to print and send in. That's what the instructions in the program imply.
And yes I noticed the glitch. So you've decided not to fix it? Fixing it might also solve the problem I described above.
BTW I also got the TTX renewal notice yesterday.
according to your post, you are looking at 395 pages. you don't want to mail all those.
Yes, I agree that the program should list the changed pages.
I don't think it does that, your revised tax return will show all pages (assuming you can eliminate the worksheets).
TurboTax offers two options, Tax return only or tax return + worksheets.
"Amended return with changed forms only" is not an option.
This is a user forum. To complain about the program contact TurboTax support.
you can find impacted forms and schedules by printing your original return and your revised return and inspecting them side by side.

They are available Monday-Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific time.
Save the PDF to your computer.
Print out the two-page Form 1040X only from that PDF.
then go back into TurboTax and delete the amendment.
Your revised tax return should still be in place.
Now go to the print center: select "tax return for filing" ,not 'tax return with all worksheets".
The directive to attach only forms and schedule impacted by your amendment comes directly from the "Instruction for Form 1040X" put out by the IRS.
