I misspelled my spouse's name while typing too quickly and didn't realize my mistake until after I had reviewed everything and printed the documents.
My spouse is a non-resident alien, and so to fill out the questions, I used a placeholder SSN (based on other community advice) and plan to white it out and then write NRA. Because of this change, my returns cannot be e-filed.
Should I also just white out the misspelled name and re-write it, or use the amended spell-checked documents (and still need to white out the placeholder SSN)?
TIA
You don't need to amend your return if you haven't e-filed it. If you haven’t e-filed or mailed your return yet. just open your return, make any changes, and file when you're ready. If you already printed your return, then do the following to get back into your return to make necessary changes.
Once here, you can make the necessary name changes. You will need to print and mail the return because it can't be efiled. You will still whiteout the dummy SSN and write NRA in its place for your spouse.
