How do I find out if I received a state or local refund for 2022?

Simple: Did you receive a refund on a state or local income tax return during 2022? Usually this means your 2021 return, but it can be for any year as long as you received it in 2022.

If you used TurboTax last year, you look at your prior state return to see whether you received a state refund. If you did not use TurboTax, check your paper return or PDF copy.

States will also give you Form 1099-G for a state refund. Many states stopped mailing those, but you should get an email telling you that your 1099-G is available. If not, check your state tax website.

You can also check your bank statements from last year if you direct deposit your refunds.
