I spoke with someone from the IRS and they are asking for me to file 2015 state taxes and the fee associated will go away. (Around one thousand dollars.) I filed them through here. The state taxes did not go through, and I did not catch it. It was one of the first times I filed. I'd like to do it through Turbo so I do not miss anything. Is this possible? How?
The IRS only handles federal tax returns, not state tax returns.
If your state contacted you by mail you should call your state tax authority to verify the letter you received and to also verify what they need from you, if anything.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for contact a state department of revenue - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/state-taxes/contact-state-department-revenue/L9qVToi02_US_en_US?uid=lq16ytv5
TurboTax does not support tax year 2015. If you are required to file the 2015 state tax return you will need to find a local tax professional to assist you in completing the state tax return.
Sorry Turbo Tax can't help you file or pay 2015. And the IRS has nothing to do with a state tax return and wouldn't be asking you to file state. Do you mean the state sent you a letter? Did they not get your state return or the Tax Due payment? I think it would be the tax due. If the letter is legit you need to pay it as soon as possible plus any late fees and interest. But this sounds very suspicious. The IRS and states never call, they only send letters in the mail. Did you call the state yourself? Be careful, could be a scam. A $1,000 fee sounds very wrong. CALL THE STATE DIRECTLY.
Thank you,
the letter does say it is from the IL state of Department of Revenue.
It's not 1000.00 exactly, its 951.00.
I called the number on the letter, but also went to the website: rev.fseu@illinois.gov I THINK it's legit.
I have never filed paper taxes before. I hope I don't get screwed over as well, thank you again.
