Thank you. I figured it out but I think it's a bug. It had nothing to do with a w2 because I didn't fill one out. The bug is this: there's no w2, no entry in line one of 1040, but for some reason there's a zero in line 1of it-201. The mismatch caused the filing problem. When I double-clicked the 0 in line 1, a blank dialog box - description/amount opens. The bug is that the 0 doesn't appear in the source dialog box when you double-click the 0 in line 1, so it's not obvious how to delete the 0 that was preventing me from filing. Finally I figured out I needed to click "remove" on the top of the dialog box and that solved the problem. The reason this is a bug is is because the entry in line 1 doesn't appear in the dialog box when you double-click the 0 in line 1.

IT-201 line 1 is wages, salaries, tips, etc. This number comes from your W-2s and is the same as Form 1040 line 1.

The only way to delete this is to delete or change the information on your W-2 entries.

To get back to your W-2

  • Type w-2 in Search in the upper right
  • Click Jump to W-2
  • Select Review on the W-2 that is giving you’re the problem
