You will need to contact your local County office for this information.

Your Homestead is filed with you local County office.

You file a homestead exemption with your county tax assessor and it reduces the amount of property tax you have to pay. Filing the homestead exemption will have no effect on your federal and state tax returns.

You should note, that there are deadlines each year for filing a homestead exemption.

There is a new company in Florida now called Florida Homestead Check.  They have a really cool product called a Homestead Check that will take information that you provide and check the various government databases and tell you whether or not you have filed for homestead, whether you have filed for “portability”, whether you have any market valuation issues on the tax rolls, and whether you forgot to file for an exemption that you qualify for  (there are lots of different ones).  It costs $100 for a “Homestead Check” and they also offer an annual monitoring program that is $75 a year.  It’s especially important to check into your filing status and valuations before you sell your home or else you could lose portability savings that get wiped out at the time of the closing.  I know several people that they have found huge savings for.  Cool product!  Their website is floridahomesteadcheck.com.

Are you in Florida?  If so, just go to www.floridahomesteadcheck.com and click “Get an Analysis”.  It’ll tell you everything you need to know.  It costs $100.  Or you can call the county property appraiser’s office and they’ll check it for you.  The problem is that they won’t check to see what all exemptions you are eligible for (there are over 30) and they won’t check to see if you filed for portability.  There’s quite a bit to it.. the $100 is worth it to have it comprehensively evaluated by FLORIDA Homestead Check.

If you're referring to a Kansas Homestead refund, please see the Kansas Department of Revenue Income and Homestead Refund Status page for guidance in checking your status.

Otherwise, please provide more information that might help us assist you.

Unfortunately, we have no way of seeing your tax return.

Please comment with the state where you filed your tax return with the Homestead credit.

We will then be able to provide you with more information on how to follow up with your specific state.

Thank you!

@371c101f67b7 This thread has had no activity for nearly four years.   You have not mentioned what state you are in.   Several states have "homestead" credits, and the credit will appear in the state portion of the tax software.  Did you complete the state return and enter information for a homestead credit?   We cannot see your tax return.
