What state? Every state has different forms.

What specific form and line number is wrong?

Is the amount on the state tax form higher or lower than the amount in box 17 of your W-2? What are the exact amounts in box 17 of your W-2 and on the line that is wrong on the tax form?

Does your W-2 have more than one line of state information in boxes 15, 16, and 17?

Does your W-2 have anything in box 19? If so, what is there, and what is in boxes 18 and 20?

Errors sometimes occur when importing a W-2. Go back to where the W-2 is entered in TurboTax and check that the amount in box 17 is correct. Also check box 19.

Did you enter any other forms that might have had state tax withheld, such as a W-2G, a 1099-R, or any other 1099-series form?

Did you make any state estimated tax payments for 2022, or apply part or all of your 2021 state refund to your 2022 state tax? Did you create state estimated tax vouchers in TurboTax last year, but not make the payments?

If you haven't filed your tax return yet, you can still make changes, but I strongly caution you to do so.  All of the questions that @rjs asked you are very important.

  • Print out a hard copy of your W-2
  • Bring up your W-2 in TurboTax
  1. Federal
  2. Wages & Income
  3. Select Wages and Salaries, or Revisit
  4. Select add a W-2 for the appropriate person if married.
  5. Post the tax ID number for the employer
  6. If you want to import the W-2, enter the value from box 1 of the W-2
  7. Follow instructions for the import
  8. If not, select [Change how I enter my form]
  9. [Type it Myself]
  10. Enter the W-2 information.
  • Compare the hard copy to what is posted.
  • If they are the same, do not change it.
    • Contact your employer if you feel it is incorrect.

Listed my Box 3 amount as $4.00.  Should have been 91073.  Listed the 91073 in Box 8. 8 should be blank.

Do I delete the uploaded info after I correct it?

It imported wrong?  If you haven't filed yet delete the W2 and enter it manually.
