Holding my refund because i didnt file in 2014!!!

Thank god I called today, they werent even going to send the letter until 3/2. In 2014 I claimed my loser bf at the time as a dependent because he was a....well loser and didnt work. A friend of mine (who does taxes professionally) did my taxes. Today they told me.they are holding my refund because my 2014 return was rejected cause this jerk must've filed himself as well. So....I cant do it electronically they said and have to pull the 1040A form and use that.

#1- should I do it myself or get help. Like it's easy to insert into turbo Tax but I am not sure I'm doing it right.

#2- if I take it to an IRS office am I really increasing my chances of it going faster

#3 - anyone have any clue how long I'm looking at?

Thanks

To answer your questions in order:

  1. It depends. Before you decide, please contact our Audit Support group here: Get help from TurboTax Support
    1. You could still file the 2014 correction yourself.
      1. You will need to purchase the 2014 TurboTax program from Amazon to access the 2014 Form 1040A and file an amended return. Here are the 2014 Form 1040A Instructions
      2. Get a copy of the IRS notice. Often times, responding to the notice as directed can resolve the issue without being required to go through amending the whole return,
    2. It may be useful to consult a tax attorney.
  2. Not necessarily. It would depend on the IRS office and the IRS agent involved in your case.
  3. Regarding how long it will take to get your 2019 refund, in general, I would expect a delay for processing of 4-6 weeks once any issues were resolved.
