Hi - I originally filed my tax return on the 25th and then forgot that I didn't fill out the high education portion. I amended the return and have questions.

Yes.

When you amend your return, you're starting out at zero.  Anything you get back on your original return you'll get back.  Anything you owe with your original return you'll owe.

The amended amount (whether you are getting an additional refund OR owe additional tax) is a separate transaction

That's why it's important to wait till you get your original refund back before you amend.

What if I send my amend before I get back my original return? What happens?

It may be delayed, they're getting an amended before they've processed the original, but they may have a procedure for that.
