I went into "Filing an Amended Return". It stated: " To Amend your TurboTax 2018 1120S, save your original return using a different file name. Return to this screen to indicate this is an amended return."
I saved my original under a different name and selected "Amend a Tax Return" and it states the save thing I mentioned in the previous paragraph. I then went made changes to the 1099 amount, but I am not getting a 1120X form. I don't know what to do. Please assist.
An amended 1120S is not filed using Form 1120X, but is done through superseding (or supplanting) the original 1120S return with the revised version. This is why you need to save the previous version as a different file, so that you may keep a data copy of the originally filed return.
The "amended" 1120S is recognized by a small checkbox on page 1 if the box is even checked (which it might not be). If it is not, checked, the new return is designed to replace the previous one (and IRS instructions are to e-file the replacement).
You can see more on this at this website: Superseded Form 1120S
Thank you for your response. So, the "Amended return" is checked. Can I still e-file? If so, how do I do that? Turbo-tax shows that I have already "e-filed".
Thanks,
John M.
The IRS says it should be e-filed, unlike the Form 1040 that must be mailed, but I don't know if TurboTax can resubmit it or not electronically. You can try. If it won't work, you will have to mail it in.
TurboTax won't let me e-file the Amended 1120S return for 2019. Where do I mail it?
