Government and Turbotax Worksheets Not Available for 2024

I just completed and filed my 2024 tax return using Turbotax Online. I did not see a way during the entire process to look at, print, or download the Depreciation and Amortization Report (Form 4562). I do not see Print Center in the left side menus anymore. Even after filing and IRS acceptance, there is no way to get any of the worksheets. Right now I don't even see a way to download the .tax2024 file, or the Amend version of the Desktop app that has been there for other years. This is a real deal-breaker for using the Online Turbotax any more if I can't access the worksheets. I don't want to pay AGAIN to buy the Desktop version so I can access them, and even if I did I would have to re-enter all the data because the .tax2024 file is not available to download. Who at Turbotax thinks this is acceptable?

If the 2024 PDF available in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" doesn't have the worksheets, it's because TurboTax doesn't usually place the larger PDF there until later in the year after TurboTax does its housekeeping.  But I can tell you how to get them.

In this answer I'll be telling you how to go back to the Print Center inside your return to get the larger PDFs, and also how you may be able to to download the *.tax2024 data file from inside your return interview.  The 2024 tax data file may not appear under "Your Tax Returns & Documents" until TurboTax either does its usual end-of-year housekeeping, or perhaps it's just taking it a while to appear there since you recently filed.  But in any case I'll tell you a way you may be able to get the data file now from inside the return interview.

First, in regard to the Print Center to get various PDFs to look for your worksheets:

  • Log in, and at the Tax Home look for a link or button "Add a State".   That doesn't really add one, but will open the return interview back up.
  • When the interview is open, do not make any changes in the return since it's already been filed.  If you ever have to amend it in the future, it has to start off exactly as originally filed.
  • Go to the left menu column and click on Tax Tools then Print Center.
  • Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return."
  • The next screen should offer some options:  "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"
  •  The latter has the most pages.

As for getting a copy of the *.tax2024 data file while tax year filing is still going on, you may be able to get it early from inside the return.  Here's how to try:

  • Open the return as described above, and again remember not to make any changes.
  • In the left column menu click on Tax Tools then Tools.
  • In the Tools window scroll down and choose "Save your 2024 return to your computer."
  • Be sure it's downloading 2024 and not another tax year.

NOTE:
Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

That worked, thank you. I noticed that the 2024 year now shows up in "Your tax returns & documents", and it did not before. It has been about 2-1/2 hours since the IRS accepted my return, so maybe there is a processing delay before the new return can be accessed in "Your tax returns & documents" so you can "Add a State".  Now that it is there, it works just as you described. Patience is required sometimes. I wish I had some.

You're welcome.  Good luck.
