Form 44444 - For incorrect payroll tax and medicare tax deducted

Hello,

I found that Social security and Medicare tax were incorrectly deducted from my paystub during 2019 and part of 2020 when I was on F1 OPT,  and informed my Employer.

Employer provided me with:

1.  Updated paystub (in 2021) with 'year 2020 payroll correction' amount in 'Deductions'.

2.  Form 44444 (for years 2020 & 2021) and asked me contact Quickbooks/IRS for refund.

What is the correct procedure to get my money in my Bank account.

Regards,

Amar

Amend your 2019 tax return using the 44444 form to correct the original W2.  Print the amended return and mail it with the original W2 and the W-2-C or 44444.    The overpayment will be your refund from the amendment.

Save the 2021 form and use when you file your 2021 taxes.

Save the updated paystub with your other 2019 tax records.

Quickbooks will not refund your money.  Only the IRS will do that.
