Filed 2020 taxes with stimulus recovery credit. Received stimulus payment after filing my taxes. Will the IRS fix the credit issue on their end or will it be amended?

2020 taxes was processed before I had received my second stimulus check. Two days after submitting my tax documents, I receive a irs notification that my stimulus payment will post in three business days. Will my taxes get fixed internally for the stimlus payment with the IRS or will my tax refund get delayed do to this system error?

They should reconcile if your return was accepted. You should expect delays simply because of all the changes. This year has been packed with changes and the IRS is allowing some latitude trying to help everyone.  The link below will show you what the IRS has on file for your stimulus payments.

  • Get My Payment - Select the button Get My Payment to see if your information is current based on the payments you did receive. If so, then it's another confirmation the IRS will not release the funds a second time.

The IRS should compare the amounts in their system to the returns that are filed and then, if the IRS accepts the return, they should automatically make the necessary adjustments before releasing the refund. Do nothing until you see what actions do occur.
