File Tax Extension for Deceased Brother

I am trying to find a link on how to file a tax extension for my brother who died in Dec 2024. He will not owe any taxes however he did not have a will and I am still waiting for the court to process all the paperwork to name me the administrator.  The estate lawyer has filed all the paperwork, just waiting for the courts which I know can take a while.

Yes, to file an extension for 2024. If you are using a desktop version of TurboTax you can file an extension for your tax return using the instructions in this link: How do I file an IRS tax extension?

If you   used TurboTax Online, to apply for an extension in your TurboTax program, you can do the following:

  1. Click on the search icon in the upper right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type "extend" in your search box
  3. Click on the link "Jump to extend"
  4. Your screen will say "Applying for an Extension"
  5. Answer "Yes" to the question "program,"
  6. Select "Continue"
  7. Follow the TurboTax screens and answer all of the follow-up questions

Your TurboTax screens will look something like this:
