I filed my state and federal taxes on January 28th 2025 and they are still showing pending. The email I received when I sent them advised me that it would only take 24-48 hours. In years past the IRS has sent me an accepted of rejected correspondence within a timely manner. Is anyone else having this issue or know what I should do?
It's been longer than 72 hours and you still haven't received a confirmation?
There could be a couple or reasons why you might be experiencing a delay;
1. First, the status might be pending for security reasons. This may be a sign that someone is trying to use your identity to file a tax return. The return has been placed on hold to give you an opportunity to cancel it if it doesn't belong to you. This can take up to 72 hours, after which your return will then be forwarded to the IRS, or if applicable, rejected. If rejected, you can then correct the rejection issue and resubmit. Please see this FAQ for reference.
2. Secondly, there could be a delay if your return has various refundable credits, such as the Earned Income Credit.
Note: Both instances may be applicable. That is, you could have a hold for security reasons first. And additionally for verification of the refundable credits in your return. In this case, delays might extend beyond 72 hours.
Neither of your answers are applicable. The IRS has accepted my taxes after 72.5 hours. Based on previous experience the IRS will reject your taxes if there is an issue that needs to corrected. Going this route can and most likely will delay your tax refund so the standard 21 day refund won't apply if you have to fix it. Thanks for sharing your response. Have a great day and God bless!
Yes it was a little over 3 days. I'd say their backlogged more than likely. The IRS just started accepting taxes January 27th.
I filed 1-29-2025 and it’s now 2-1-2025, still pending for me as well. Did you ever get yours updated?
Mine got excepted on 1/24 and currently it still says processing🙄
That's accurate. It can take estimated 21 days to process from the date that it is accepted if you elected direct deposit refund method.
How did you guys filed, online or software download? I filed thru desktop version (download) on 1-28-25 and haven’t received any email of acceptance, now 2-1-25
I filed 1/28/25 at 8 am and it is now 2/1/25 and mine are still showing pending. Everyone else who filed around the same time as me had their accepted within a couple of hours. I am starting to panic 😱
What is a reasonable time frame for the taxes to show accepted or rejected if I had dependent credit $500 and $1200 credit for home energy efficiency upgrades? I submitted 1/28 at around 8 am. Could the fact that it still shows pending mean that I am being audited by IRS?
I doubt it’s an audit - how can the IRS audit something they still haven’t received/accepted? Seems like there is a problem for many people right now including me. My taxes are pretty much the same forms as years prior although I did get the EV credit this year.
Okay, so it sounds like most of us who are still waiting for IRS to accept the e-file claimed the EV credit.
There was a hold on certain credits causing a processing on return status. The holds status has been resolved return statuses should be updated.

Additionally, if you have Form 5695 and claiming joint occupancy, the IRS will not be accepting these returns until 3/16/25. You can see this on this IRS site. The language you see below is from Row 39 of the Tax Year 2024 spreadsheet.
Taxpayers claiming Joint Occupancy on Form 5695 will have to file via paper if filing their return before the Form 5695 schema is updated in mid-March. This temporary limitation should only impact a subsection of Form 5695 filers. For a preview of the TY24 draft form and instructions for Form 5695, please see the Draft tax forms on IRS.gov at https://www.irs.gov/draft-tax-forms. Submission of Forms 5695 that do not claim Joint Occupancy may be e-filed at the start of Processing Year 2025
I filed on Saturday 2/1 and it has been 72 hours. If the issue has been resolved what kind of time frame are filers seeing their return status moved to RECEIVED currently ? Thanks
With due respect, nothing has been updated! I talked to your kind colleague and this is your system screening more, fine pls just be transparent. Hope mine get cleared by today which is 72 hrs.
