Fed tax refund deposited in account from "TAX PRODUCTS PE3 PPD DESC-SBTPG LLC" shorted my refund amount

My refund was deposited in my bank account on March 10th from "TAX PRODUCTS PE3 PPD DESC-SBTPG LLC", and was $65 less than what the Fed "check my refund" refund was listed to be deposited.   Anyone else have this issue?

MY REFUND WAS LESS THAN I EXPECTED

There can be a number of reasons why your refund was less than the amount you expected. First of all, look carefully at your actual tax returns.  There is sometimes confusion about the amount of refund to expect when users misinterpret the “summary” they saw in TurboTax. The amount of your refund is on your tax return.  Federal refund is on line 34 on Form 1040  State tax forms are all different so we cannot tell you what line to look at on your state form.  BUT it is important to actually LOOK at your tax return forms yourself and see the amounts of your tax refunds and/or tax due.  A lot of confusion would be avoided by doing that.

TurboTax does not receive feedback from the IRS regarding money that was offset from your refund.  If you owed back taxes, child support, student loan debt, etc. you will receive a letter of explanation from the IRS in several weeks.  The WMR site will contain a message regarding your offset.  It is also possible that the IRS caught a mistake you made and reduced your refund.

A possible reason for the reduction could be that the recovery rebate credit was completed incorrectly and you may have entered the amount of stimulus already received wrong, which could have reduced the refund you thought you were seeing.

It is also possible that your state reduced your refund for debts owed in your state—if the state reduced your state refund you will receive a letter from the state.

Be aware also that your Federal refund and state refund do NOT come together.  Federal and state tax returns are processed by two completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come first,

Did you choose to have TT fees deducted from your Federal refund?  (Remember that if you did that, you also agreed to an extra refund processing fee of $39.99)

Thanks for the information.  It seems I forgot that I checked the box for the audit protection and the extra $20 fee for the Calif State filing.  When I recalculated the figures, it looks like the TT fees were correct.  My issue now is with the IRS regarding their adjusting my return lower by $59.  I'm still waiting for their letter of explanation they said they mailed on March 8.  Time will tell.  Thanks again.

After getting the IRS explanation letter yesterday and checking the figures, the answer to our refund issue was that the original refund figure that TT computed and submitted to the IRS included a "Recovery Rebate Credit" amount. The IRS letter indicated that that credit did not apply to us due to our "AGI of over $150,000 married and filing jointly", or, "the amount was computed incorrectly (683D)" and they reduced our return accordingly.

I reviewed the "Recovery Rebate Credit" worksheet in the TT forms and the numbers look correct, so, since I don't know the regulations regarding the RRC, I don't know if Turbo Tax is wrong or the IRS is wrong.

The expected refund amount that TT submitted minus the RRC amount is the exact figure that was refunded.

I had a similar issue. I went back into TurboTax to be sure that I entered the correct Economic Impact Payment amounts. I confirmed they had been entered correctly. However, looking at the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet, line 19 had a zero instead of the EIP 2 amount I had entered while answering the TT questions. Line 20 on this form had the EIP 2 amount, as did line 21. TurboTax appears to have a bug in the software that completes this worksheet.

You may need to delete the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet and start again.  Here's how:

How do I view and delete forms in TurboTax Online?

  • Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  • In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  • In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  • Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.
