Entering payments for Amended filing status

Amending return for filing status. One spouse received refund, one spouse made payment. Do you separately enter refund (Line 18)  and payment (Line 16) or do you net them together and enter one line (Line 16 or 18) on 1040-x

If you are amending your filing status, you would enter the refund on line 18 and the payment on line 16.  If you net them together, the numbers will not match what the IRS has for you.  You may not be able to e-file the amended return as this may try to give you an error.
