Efile rejection

My efile has been repeatedly rejected by the IRS, and thus the state.  The error message is:

"The primary taxpayer's AGI or Self-select PIN from last year does not match IRS records."

Some information may be helpful.

(1) I have reviewed a saved copy of my 2019 tax return.  I've gone to the IRS website and downloaded a transcript of my 2019 tax return.  The 2019 Adjusted Gross Income entered is correct.

(2) I have no idea what my PIN was from 2019.  I'm not sure I ever created or was given a PIN.  I vaguely remember starting the efile process in 2019, but I ended up mailing the return.

(3) My return was filed in June of 2020, but not processed until 2021.

(4) I have read other similar threads, and tried submitting with an AGI of 0.  Still rejected.

Does anyone have a solution?  The backlog in processing mailed in returns last year created delays with refunds and issues with stimulus payments.  I would like to avoid that if I can. Thanks for your help.

If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2019 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2019 AGI might not be in the IRS system.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

Or—-if you filed as a “non-filer” just to get the stimulus check on a 2019 return, try using $1 as the AGI.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

You only need to enter last year's AGI or last year's Self-Select PIN, not both.   Leave one field blank.

All the AGI tips we have compiled can be found here.
