Efile back up it seems to be taking a long time to get a status.

Not sure what you are asking.  The IRS does not open for efile until Jan 23, so nothing will be accepted or rejected until at least then.

IF you are new to tax filing online
...it's the same thing EVERY YEAR...you can submit before the IRS will actually start processing them.

And the IRS rarely starts before the second week in January...3rd week is fairly normal....except that year that Congress passed a tax bill on 29 Dec, when some people couldn't file until Mid February.

You are safer waiting to e-file until after 1 Feb...1 march is safer yet.
