I e-filed my 2019 taxes March 26th 2020 and received confirmation texts early morning on March 27th indicating both my federal and state taxes had been accepted. I received my state tax refund over a week ago; however, the status on my federal return is still pending. Additionally, I just received a check for the stimulus and it looks like the IRS used my 2018 filing rather than the 2019 filing as the stimulus amount was much less than expected. My 2018 earnings were higher than 2019 and a life event occurred in 2019. I am unable to contact the IRS (including local offices) via telephone as they are not taking any questions, while there does not appear to be any chat or email support as well. Is there anyway I can contact the IRS to resolve my current situation of pending status on my efile (over 4 weeks) and incorrect basis for my stimulus check?
Regarding your federal refund, your return may have been selected for additional review. Alternatively, the delay might be due to the drastic staffing cuts the IRS made due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, you will have to wait till they reopen to call them at 800 829 1040.
Regarding the stimulus, if you don't receive the full stimulus payment in 2020, you can always receive it as a credit on your 2020 return in 2021. The stimulus is actually an ADVANCE on a credit on your 2020 return.
