Does "Where's My Refund" tracking work if one applies the refund amount to next year's return?

If one elects on the 1040 to have the entire 2022 refund applied to 2023 tax liability, can one use the "Where's My Refund" tool to track processing of the federal return if you enter in the "refund amount" the entire amount designated for use in 2023? The tool only works if one enters a refund amount, but technically "the refund" won't be issued to the taxpayer because it is being applied to the next year.

If that doesn't work, is there another way to track IRS processing of the return where the refund is being applied to the following year's liability?

Thanks.

I believe the IRS website only shows information for a refund being issued.  Since you applied all your refund to next years taxes, it does not show a refund.

You can get a free transcript of your return, it would have information on the processing of your return.  It can take 3 to 4 weeks for a transcript to show after return submission.  The following website on information on transcripts.

If one sets up an account with IRS, would the account show the different steps in the processing, do you know? Would that be different from seeking a transcript? Thanks.

I am not sure if you set up an account if you can see what is happening with the processing of your return.  The only one I know is Where's My Refund, or getting a transcript.

I did set up an account and it informs me that the return has not been processed yet so I will see it when it is processed, which it says is within 21 days of e-filing. It shows balances etc. One can also set it up to receive notification of receiving certain notices from IRS so one can log in and see them without waiting for snail mail to deliver them (maybe). But it's not applicable to all notices. Cool to have the account.
