I received a letter from the IRS stating that there was an error on my 1040 which affected the Refundable Child Tax Credit section of my return. I reviewed the calculations that Turbotax made and I agree they are correct. Should I reach out directly to the IRS or is there a way I can have Turbotax do this on my behalf?

@llancaster - a few questions:
1) what is on Line 28 of your tax return?
2) how many children do you have between the ages of 6 and 17 (use their age as of 12/31/21)
3) how many children do you have under the age of 6 (use their age as of 12/31/21)
4) how much did you receive from the IRS from July - December, 2021 for the advance child tax credit? Please check you bank statements and do not do from memory.... the payments came out about the 15th of each month.
Line 28 should be item 2) times $3000 plus item 3) times $3600 LESS item 4)
item 4) is something you entered into TT. if what you entered does not match the IRS' records (since they are the ones that sent it to you, they know what the answer should be), Line 28 was inflated by the difference and the IRS has adjusted your refund to match their records.
Line 28 is an automated calculation by TT except for where you enter how much you already received, so if there is an error, THAT manually entry is going to be the issue, so please check your bank records closely.
let me know what you find!
