Does audit protection cover your filed taxes? I checked the box for it, paying a fee for it, so why 2 years in a row am i having issues with getting my tax return?

last year i had to wait an extra 2-3v months to et my return due to identification verification, this year i got a notice just saying it is delayed due to them reviewing our information. like i dont understand why we never had issues till last year and now this year?? It is very frustrating esp. when you count on your return and they screw you around with nonsense. my husband and i only had our PUA income to claim and child tax credit (which i wish we never recieved) because it seeems to have caused nothing but a headache, but there isnt that much information they need to review so what is the real issue at hand here?! and why is it so god damn hard to get someone to talk to you and giv you god darn answers?

identification verification is solely on the IRS. evidently, in some prior year, a return was filed using an SSN on your return that wasn't really filed by you.

ID verification is not an audit.   audit protection is for situations where the IRS changes things on your return and you don't agree with this (or for that matter state changes).   AP is not a guarantee that your return is correct only that a third party will intercede and handle audits and changes.  if changes are warranted, then AP will not benefit you. you'll have to pay the additional taxes, interest and penalties. AP is not the Turbotax guarantee that the calculations are correct. if Turbotax does miscalculate, you'll have to file a claim and pay the IRS bill.  if it is a Turbotax error, then you'll be reimbursed for penalties and interest but not the taxes ( you would have owed them anyway)
