Do I still HAVE to use turbotax after I amend my taxes?

I filed a w2 on turbotax but did not realize I had to file my 1099 at the same time. Now I need to amend my w2 so I can add a 1099 form.

After I amend that w2, do I still have to use turbotax to submit both forms or can I use another software?

You must have a copy of the original tax return you want to update (or a transcript).

The simplest way is to prepare your correct tax return (using TurboTax for example, or any other software you prefer) and print it.
Then lay the paper printouts of both returns (correct and original) side-by-side.
You now have all the information needed to prepare Form 1040X by hand.
It's pretty straight-forward.

The blank form in fillable PDF format and its instructions are available at www.irs.gov.
Mail to the same address you would mail your original tax return.

If you choose this path, you won't be able to e-File your 2020 Form 1040-X.
