Do I need to mail a corrected 1040 with a amendment

Hi,

In my original tax filling, I forget to include the 1099-R for in-plan Roth conversion. So my line 5a in my 1040 was left empty and I want to fix it through an amendment.

However, there is no taxable income change and no new form need. What forms do I need to file with 1040-X.

Shall I include a corrected 1040? Otherwise, how could IRS see what is amended?

Thanks

Use this IRS tool. it may want form 8606. if you are supposed to file a 1040-X all that's need would be needed is the 1040-X, 1040, and 8606

When amending on paper,

do not include your old 1040 nor your revised 1040 because the Form 1040-X reflects any changes there and becomes your new tax return.

Therefore, there is nothing to do.

An In-plan Roth conversion (In-plan Roth Rollover, code G in box 7 of the Form 1099-R) has nothing to do with Form 8606.

An in-plan Roth rollover is generally a taxable transaction unless it consists entirely of after-tax funds and the Form 1099-R shows the same amount in box 5 as is in box 1.  If the Form 1099-R has a nonzero amount in box 2a, you must amend.
