Do I need to mail a copy of my 1099-G or W2 form together with state tax return?

Based on mail instruction from turbotax,

  • Attach the following to your California tax return:

  • |  - a copy of your federal return

  • |  - any Form(s) W-2G. Also attach any 592-B, 593, and 1099s that have California withholding to the front of your return. Do not attach any Forms(s) W-2. |

Does that mean I need to mail a copy or original of my 1099-G form together with state tax return? I assume no W-2 form is required based on the instruction.

From these instructions, you would need to send a copy of your 1099-G if it shows any California state withholding, as it would fall into the category "1099's that have California withholding."

You are correct that they have excluded W-2's from being attached.  The state gets copies of your W-2's, so they already have this information.
