Do I need to file an amended 1040?

I thought I took care of everything when I filed my taxes earlier this year but apparently I didn’t file a 8962 form. I thought it was done when I filed my 1040ez but I received a letter saying it hasn’t been filed.

Basically I need to reconcile my tax credit from last year to receive assistance for next year. I have all the information and printed everything off to that I need to fill out for my 8962. What I’m asking is do I have to go back and file an amended 1040 or can I just fill out form 8962 and send that in?

If the 8962 does not change your tax liability from what you originally filed, you can just fill out and send it the form. If it does change your tax liability resulting in you owing some of your refund back to the IRS, or getting additional refund from the IRS, then you will need to amend.

This might be a stupid question but how would I know if it did?
