I asked this question last week and didn't get a response. I asked asked today and my post got deleted? I recieved an email stating box 12 of my return was incomplete. I'm certain I filled everything out properly but I guess that's not the case. Do I need to amend or should I be alright?
Can you please clarify? Was your return rejected? Please verify here: https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/
box 12 of your return meaning line 12 of your Form 1040? or box 12 of your Form W-2?
My return was accepted and I was referring to box 12 of my 1040. I apologize for the confusion.
Are there any letter codes in Box 12? If so what letters are there?
Could it mean box 12 of a W-2?
What error did the email say was generated by the 'D' in box 12?
In box 12 on my W-2, it had the letter "D" and X amount of dollars. I entered that information on my tax return. I then recieved an email from TurboTax stating the information in box 12 of the tax return was incomplete yet the IRS accepted my return.
The box 12 "D" code reports the amount of your retirement plan deductions for work. That amount has already been deducted from the box 1 amount on your W-2, so the taxable income on your tax return should be correct. If the IRS accepted the tax return, the return should process.
The email from TurboTax may or may not be addressing the "D" code. Box 12 can have multiple codes, and it could be that another code was omitted from the W-2. The email from TurboTax should explain what you should do next.
