Do I need to amend my 8606, and if so, can you help me do so?

My CPA never filed an 8606 for my 2022 taxes (that was my first year making non deductible contributions to traditional IRA) so I just had him submit one. I used TurboTax for 2023 tax year and there was an 8606 filed for that one. Do I have to amend the 8606 for 2023 now that I just submitted one for 2022? If yes, can someone help walk me through it using TurboTax so I don’t mess up?

Maybe. Is the 2023 form 8606 correct? If yes, do nothing.

If not, then file a new 2023 to show the correct changes. File just the form 8606 by mail. Use tracking to ensure your information is safe.

To correct the form, you have options:

  • You can go back into your 2023 tax return and make the changes there. Select add a state and then fix the 8606 and print.
  • Print it and fill it in by hand using your original plus 2022 to create your new answers.

Once complete, print, SIGN, and mail your  8606 form. See Where to file paper tax returns with or without a payment
