Do I have to own the bank account I want my return deposited into?

My name is not on the checking account I want it put into, is this going to be a problem?

Yes.  The bank will probably reject the deposit if your name is not on the account.  Ask the bank.  Then the IRS will mail a check to the address on your return.

It might be a problem that will delay your refund for weeks.   The bank will most likely refuse the deposit and send it back to the IRS.  Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address on your tax return.   All of that takes extra time and you wait a lot longer.

I had mine deposited into my bestfriends account a couple years ago with no issue, we even got deposits to that account the same day. Not sure if the bank is the determining factor or if the irs didnt mind sending it to her account because we lived in the same household,  so I would talk to the bank first
