Do I have to file a tax return if I am a dependent and babysat and was paid $5,000 by an FSA but did not make enough money to file a tax return?

I'm not required to file a tax return because I'm under the minimum filling amount. No taxes were taken out of my payments.

Yes. You are required to file a tax return.

Babysitting income is considered self-employed income. And you are required to file a tax return if you receive self-employed income of more than $400.

Dependents are required to file a tax return if they have any of the following:

  1. Total income (wages, salaries, taxable scholarship ) of more than $13,850 in 2023.
  2. Unearned income (interest, dividends, capital gains) of more than $1,250.
  3. Gross income (earned plus unearned) exceeding the larger of $1,250 or her earned income (up to $13,850) plus $400.
  4. Other self-employment income over $400.
