Are you referring to the Home Energy Credit on a federal tax return?  This would have been entered on a form 5695 that is included with your 2016 personal tax return.

The Non-Business Energy Property Credit expired after 12/31/2016.  If you were eligible for the credit in 2016 then you should have reported them on your 2016 tax return.  See this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/get-credit-for-making-a-home-energy-efficient

Using TurboTax you can e-file a 2016 tax return through October 16, 2017.  The 2016 tax return can be printed and mailed at any time.

To enter Home Energy Credits -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credit
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Your Home
  • On Home Energy Credits, click the start or update button

Or enter home energy improvement in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to home energy improvement

On the screen Tell Us How Much You Paid for Energy-Saving Improvements -

For HVAC, electric heat pump water heater, natural gas, propane, or oil water heater, and a stove that burns biomass fuel to heat your home or heat water.  Enter the cost in the box labeled Energy-Efficient Building Property.
