Despite being claimed as a dependent in 2020, Turbotax has added the Recovery Rebate Credit to my federal refund. How do I fix this?

The results of your 2021 tax return are based only on your situation for tax year 2021.    If you cannot be claimed as a dependent for 2021 then you can get the 3rd EIP payment----even if your parents got it for claiming you for 2020.   That is how Congress wrote the law.   The 3rd EIP payments that went out last year were an advance on a credit you can get on a 2021 tax return.

What tax year are you asking about?   You cannot use the online software to prepare a 2020 return.   Online is only for 2021.    Can someone claim you as a dependent for 2021?   If you cannot be claimed as someone's dependent for 2021 then you can get the 3rd EIP payment as a recovery rebate credit.

Please clarify what tax year you are working on.

I'm working on my 2021 taxes. I won't be claimed as a dependent in 2021. I was under the impression that I didn't qualify because I didn't file taxes in 2020 and was claimed as a dependent when they were shipping the stimulus checks out.
