CPO5 SINCE MARCH 16TH 2020

How many people have received word about their tax returns are being verified after receiving a CPO5 notice from the IRS?

I received my notice the week after i called IRS on March 13th, 2020. The Lady that i spoke too said that my return is on a CPO5 hold and it will be a 60 day hold from the date on the notice. I got my letter the following week on the 20th, with a post date of March 16th, 2020.

Yesterday (Friday May 15th, 2020) was the 60 day mark. I tried calling IRS with thr automated phone service saying IRS is closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

I tweeted and blew up Trumps and VP and IRS twitter, they deleted 20 tweets from me, and only left one tweet.

Anyone have any infomation if they heard anything from IRS or the CPO5 holds on their end???

The IRS issues a lot of refunds within 21 days, but it has been taking longer with the stimulus payment being issued in addition to the tax refunds.

IRS processing time and refund status

The online link is your best option to track your refund.  I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.

Be aware, the IRS operations are limited during the Covid-19 pandemic.  Attached is a link with more information as to what departments are available to contact at the moment.

None of these corresponds to many americans issue about CPO5 60 day hold.  Literally thousands of people have been placed on a CPO5 hold, and have had ZERO updates to either IRS Wheres my refund website or App. We need answers that specifically says CPO5 Holds being released, and when to expect them.  #We go to jail if we dont pay taxes, but yet we cant do anything if IRS holds our money for literally no reason at all.

IT DOESNT TAKE 60 DAYS to scroll through an electronic form to LOOK at and decide Accept, or Reject... ITS not Rocket Science.

We need answers to why it takes 60 days, we need real answers to why they do not post anything for updates that say "CPO5" holds and not these other links you posted.

You will not find that anywhere.   The article I pointed you to indicates that manual processing is extremely limited.     A 60 day hold is for manual processing that the IRS is currently not doing.

"IT DOESNT TAKE 60 DAYS to scroll through an electronic form to LOOK at and decide Accept, or Reject.."  It does if the reviewer is at home and not working due to the Corona virus.

That process required HUMANS to do it and the humans were sent home 8 weeks ago leaving a lot of unfinished business ... so until they get back in the offices and get back to processing the stacks of work on the desks folks will need to be patient.  What was a 60 day notice has turned into 120 day notices.

@Critter

In the links you provided it says that IRS is still processing, and sending out tax returns for electronic form senders.  Its limited capacity on workers, but they are still functional.

Everyone who i have talked to says they filed electronically. Why should they extend notices, if they are still working on others. First come first serve basis as it says on every other webpage on IRS.gov.

That means that e-filed returns that can be automatically processed by the IRS computers, that do not required human processing, is continuing.   The fact that you received a CP05 means that your electronic return has been pulled from the automatic processing system and set aside to be hand processed by a human who is now sitting at home.   Yours is no longer a electronic processed tax return.
