CP567 Notice letter - ITIN got rejected

Hello All,

I’ve submitted ITIN application form for my son, In-Person at IRS office on Aug 3rd and received CP567 notice on Nov 27th asking to fill new W7 and the federal tax return along with it. It is mentioned that the documents need to be submitted with original passport or certified copy of the passport via mail. I am worried to send the original document via mail during this pandemic times.

Can I resubmit the new W7 form and the 1040 via IRS in-person option? This option was not mentioned in the CP567 notice letter.

Hoping there would be alternative for replying to the CP567 notice without sending the original passport. Please advice. Thanks!

Yes the w7 instructions say you can send a certified of the passport so you don't have to send the actual passport.   Read page 3 of the instructions ... the passport is not the only doc allowed ...  https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/iw7.pdf

Thanks for the reply. To get the certificated passport, I need to send the original to consulate. Can I submit the required documents along with the notice letter via In-Person IRS TAC office?
