Completed of current tax return (status filed, which I needed to print and file by mail and haven't done so yet) but noticed an error. Should I start an amendment? Or?

I (thought) I completed my current return and hit file. I later noticed an error when I downloaded my completed forms. I chose to mail in my printed return and haven't done so yet. Since the status of my return on TurboTax is now "filed", I could not make any change to the return. What are my options? Should I start an amendment (which seems complicated since I haven't even mailed in my return yet)? Or is there another options?

Do not click on anything that says "amend."    You do not "amend" a return that has not ever been filed.  Click on Add a State---that trick will let you go back into the software to make changes--and you do not really have to add a state return.    Make the changes you need to make and then either print it again to file by mail or e-file.

What if I already completed an “amendment” in TurboTax… and right now the amendment status shows as “ready to print”…

Can I still go back into the return by adding a state and redoing my original return since I haven’t mailed either the original or the amendment? My return has to be filed by mail and I did not choose efile.

Thank you!
stupid question - since it says “printed” on the original return and “ready to mail” on the amended, I’m assuming neither would have been filed without me actually mailing them in. Is that correct? Those two can be considered “unfiled drafts” if I don’t mail them?
so if I go in now by adding a state and make the required changes and then mail it in, I should be ok right?

TurboTax does not mail tax returns for you.   If it says "printed" or "ready to mail" it has not been filed unless you personally put it in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.
