Cashier's Check from Green Dot Bank is Less than What Refund Amount Should Be

I used Intuit Turbo Tax online for the first time this year and agreed to pay their $129 fee out of my tax return, but the check I received from Green Dot Bank is less than the amount it should be after the $129 fee is taken out of my refund.

How much is missing?  There is an extra $40 (45 for California) Refund Processing Service charge.  And if they couldn't deposit it to your bank account  and had to mail you a check I think there is a $10 fee for that too.

What is Refund Processing?

Also need to account for state sales tax.  Did the IRS deposit the full refund or did they keep some of it for a debt of some kind.  AND the state refund is sent separately if that is what you are missing right now.

I received a cashiers check from Green Dot Bank for $100 less than what I was expecting. I don't even know if this is legit. I thought that refunds would all come as an official IRS check.

How did you choose to receive your Refund?  If direct deposit to your bank, and IRS wasn't able to deposit into that account (closed?, wrong account numbers?) they would send you a check.

Since we can't see your return in this forum, your refund amount may have had TurboTax fees subtracted, or Refund Processing Fees (for paying from your refund), or doesn't include your State Refund.  You could reach out to Green Dot for more info.

Here's contact info for Green Dot Bank.

Me too. did you find out why? The IRS told me to contact TT and TT told me to contact the IRS. Nobody can give me an answer. My check was $155 less than what I was expecting

Mine is $155 less. The IRS told me to contact TT and TT told me to contact the IRS. Nobody can give me a solid answer. Even if they charge me 40 + 10. There is still 105 missing. Doesn't make any sense

Your refund could be offset.

The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts.  You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.

The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.
